Summer 2009 Newsletter
The last six months at Fisher House, Inc. have been very busy with the $190,000
renovation of Fisher House III complete. Our military members and their families are
enjoying the new furniture, carpet, and fresh look of Fisher House III. The renovation would
not be possible without the hard work and dedicated members of the 37th Training Wing,
Mission Support Squadron, Civil Engineer Squadron, Contracting Squadron, volunteers and
staff. The renovation of Fisher House III is now a mission success with our guest enjoying
the benefts.
With the renovation behind us our focus has turned towards the grounds surrounding the houses. In effort to make the Fisher
Houses as relaxing as possible for our guest while adding a pleasant atmosphere we have began the planning stage of a new
landscape design with new fowers, trees and plants.
The Fisher House Inc. Charitable Gala is scheduled Nov 7, 2009 at the Oak Hills Country Club. Invitations for the Fisher House
Inc Gala event will be mailed out soon so please mark your calendar if you plan on attending this year. It will be diffcult to top
last year’s Gala event but Jane Edwards, Lt Gen Anderson and the entire Gala team ensured our Board of Directors this will be
a great event to attend. According to a very reliable source, the rumor around town is the Fisher Houses, Inc. Gala event is the
best Gala in San Antonio.
The Fisher House, Inc. web site is operating strong with over 8,865 hits in the last six months.
An electronic version of our
newsletter can be viewed from the web site. By logging onto www.fsherhouseinc.org you can get some current information
and fnd key contact numbers for our entire staff. Our goal is to provide the best possible service to our guest, military
members, donors, volunteers, and community.
Once again I am overwhelmed with the generosity of our donors and volunteers who continue to donate funds and valuable
time to the Fisher House during diffcult times. Without the generous donations we could not survive and continue to take
care of our military members and their families. I am amazed by the donations from individuals who are facing personal
hardship but somehow fnd a way to provide continued support to our military families. Our volunteers are second to none. The
volunteers range from 9 years old to 90 years old while contributing valuable time in order to beneft others in great need. We
also have small groups and large groups of volunteers ranging from Girl Scouts, Top Three Enlisted clubs and Offcer Spouses
Clubs. Thank you to all donors and volunteers who ensure our military members and their families receive the beneft of a
home-away-from-home while receiving critical medical care at Wilford Hall Medical Center.
Sincerely
Dwayne F. Hopkins, Executive Director
Fisher House, Inc.
