Fall/Winter 2008 Newsletter
The last few months at Fisher House, Inc. have been both challenging
and rewarding. Renovation for Fisher House III has been approved
with work to begin in December 2008. The renovation will replace all
carpet, provide fresh paint and install new furniture totaling about $190,000.
Additionally, Fisher House now has wireless laptop computers for our guest. The laptop computers pro-
vide a great convenience to our guests who send emails to family members around the world with updates
on the medical status of their family members.
It is with a sad heart to hear of the death of Major General Dave Morehouse (USAF Retired). General
Morehouse served his country his entire life and served as a vital member of Fisher House, Inc. Board of
Directors for 13 years. He diligently served as our Fisher House Inc legal advisor for many years. General
Morehouse and his wife Sally frequently visited the Fisher Houses. The Fisher Houses at Lackland Air
Force are a better place to stay due to the efforts of General Morehouse and his wife Sally. My deepest
sympathy to the entire Morehouse family. General Morehouse will be deeply missed.
I would like to welcome three new members to the Board of Directors. Mark Ferguson, Trisha Gamboa,
and Robert Parker bring a lot of leadership experience to our already very experienced Board of Direc-
tors. I would also like to welcome back Doug Walters to the Board of Directors and the Fisher House, Inc.
Team. Fisher House, Inc. is blessed to have such an active Board of Directors of inl uential leaders in our
community.
The Fisher House Inc Charitable Gala was on Nov 1, 2008 at the Oak Hills Country Club. Everyone had a
great time at the Gala. The event was the best gala ever orchestrated by Fisher House, Inc. Lt Gen. Mark
Anderson, Maj Gen. Lorraine Potter, Maj Gen. Tom Hickey, Col. Jane Edwards, Ramelle Glasscock, Lt Col.
Jerry Hardy, Col. Leo Cutcliff, Andrea Menard and Terry Jo Lechner have worked very hard to make this
a very successful event. Thanks to all the committees for a very successful gala.
The Fisher House, Inc. web site has undergone some renovation. By logging onto www.fisherhouseinc.org you
can watch a condensed version of our Fisher House, Inc. video and get key contact numbers and
email addresses of our entire staff. Our goal is to provide the best possible service to our guest, military
members, donors, volunteers, and community.
I am continually overwhelmed with the generosity of our donors and volunteers who continue to donate
funds and valuable time to the Fisher House during theses difi cult and strenuous times. Thank you to all
our supporters for allowing us the capability to provide a home away from home to our guest receiving
critical medical care at Wilford Hall Medical Center.
Sincerely
Dwayne F. Hopkins, Executive Director
Fisher House, Inc.
