
Carl Backer
As Senior Manager of Business Excellence functions, Carl leads Boeing-San Antonio
in its role of key processes implementation and integration providing Functional
Excellence in support of all Programs. He is responsible for overall direction and
successful execution of Information Technology, Production Engineering, and LEAN+
& Employee Involvement. Carl was born in Valdosta Georgia. After attending Valdosta
State University, he entered the United States Air Force and served a very distinguished
Air Force career. His vast composition of maintenance experiences during his career
were both unique and diverse consisting of Trainer, Fighter, and Airlift aircraft.
As Chief Master Sergeant, he directed the maintenance efforts of numerous Aircraft
Maintenance Units and Organizational Maintenance Squadrons in several Air Force
Military Commands. He retired from active duty in 2000 as Logistics Chief of the
Combat Logistics Support Squadron, Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas.
Carl joined the Boeing Company in August 2000 as a manager on the KC-135 Programmed
Depot Maintenance Program directing Major Structural Repairs. In October 2001, he
was promoted to Senior Manager and reassigned to manage Backshop Operations. In
2003 he assumed the position of Program Manager of all backshop and support operations.
In 2005 Carl was assigned to the position of Site Operations Management with oversight
of aircraft Operations Support. In this position, he was directly responsible to
the Site General Manager and Boeing Defense, Space & Security Operations in support
of assigned aircraft programs? execution and performance to plan.
